Basset Hound Olympians Apollo and Winslow Go for the Gold

On April 25 and 26, 2008, in Ocean City, New Jersey, Basset Hounds from around the world will take to the street to raise money for fellow rescues.  Joining the pack will be Apollo and Winslow, who will participate in the “Basset Hound Olympics” and “Boardwaddle.” Their goal, to raise awareness for the adoption of approximately 40+ homeless Basset Hounds in the Tri-State area and to raise over $150,000 needed on an annual basis to help provide the medical and kennel expenses for hounds without homes. Apollo and Winslow, who were recently featured in the Burlington County Times representing Pawtographs’ initiative to “Leave No Pet Behind” when moving from your home, has been working to promote the awareness of animal rescue, as shelters from across the country exceed occupancy rates.  Life Strategist Gail Kasper continues to support these efforts with the hopes of helping the homeless avoid being amongst the 3-4 million pets across the nation who are euthanized every year.

On, April 25, 2008, at 1:00 pm, at 6th and Asbury in Ocean City, New Jersey, Apollo and Winslow, along with Basset Hounds from across the country, will participate in the Basset Hound Olympics.

This year’s events include:  the 10-meter sprint, the 15-meter hurdles (6 inch high hurdles, but for our Basset low riders – a challenge), the Obstacle course, and the High Jump (the bar starts at 6 inches and moves up from there).  Apollo, a 6-year old Basset and 2006 Gold Medalist and 2007 Bronze Medalist for the 10-meter sprint, is back in the race with his brother Winslow.  Apollo will once again participate in the 10-meter relay and the high jump, but, this year, will also compete in the Obstacle course.  Winslow, 4, will participate in the 10-meter relay and the 15-meter hurdles.Registration for the Olympic games is not later than 12 noon with the games beginning at 1:00.

The weekend continues on April 26, 2008, with the 10th Annual Boardwaddle where over 500 Basset Hounds have been seen walking the streets of Ocean City in a parade to raise money for their fellow rescues.  This is the Tri-State Rescues main fund raising event for the year.  A waddle is similar to a walkathon, but the hounds get the pledges and waddle to help their homeless friends of Tri-State Basset Rescue. The hounds will walk through Ocean City, NJ, on the Boardwalk along the Atlantic Ocean, and will finish with a picnic at the end of the parade route at 6th and the Boardwalk.
